SOS Africa Completes Aftercare Club Renovation Project
10 Sep 2014
Last month SOS Africa Director Matt Crowcombe and Graphic Designer Claudia Titley embarked upon an exciting renovation project to transform SOS Africa’s new Aftercare Club in the Western Cape. The charity has kindly been granted use of the building by Grabouw Primary, the school attended by our children in the region. It is situated in centre of the school, making it a short and safe walk for our children once the school day is over. SOS Africa’s Aftercare Clubs play a vital role in the charity’s holistic education programme providing the children with lunch, homework assistance, extra lessons and mentoring.
As you can see from the photos, the building required a complete make-over and who better than Claudia, our graphic designer, to add her personal artistic touch…
The inside of the building also needed a great deal of work. Over the course of the 10 day project, we aimed to create a child-friendly work-space which would both inspire our children and fulfill their educational needs…
For us, the most memorable part of the project had to be seeing the reactions of the SOS Africa children when they first saw the completed building. The beaming smiles and overwhelming excitement reassured us that this new Aftercare Club would be a place that our current and future children would be proud of for years to come.
We would like to say a big thank you to Headmaster George and his staff at Grabouw Primary School for allowing us to use the building and for the continued support they have given our education programme. We would also like to thank Anna and her wonderful team in the Western Cape for the incredible care and support they provide our children on a daily basis.
It is our dream, that one day, similar Aftercare Clubs can be established throughout Africa to enable many more deserving children break the poverty cycle.
