Elizabeth from Dunduzela Day and Night Care Centre in Nellmapius, East of Pretoria, needs your help urgently. Elizabeth is ”mother” to abandoned babies, toddlers and teens; children simply left at her door or picked up in the fields around her house. You will remember that I visited her a while back and she introduced me to some of the little ones. Not all of them are HIV-positive, but some of them are and they need special care…nutritional supplements, medication, etc, to keep them healthy. Yet, Elizabeth made a loving home for them and the children adore her.
Yesterday I received a request from her for specific items she needs for her household. Now, Elizabeth gets some funding for the orphans in her care, but has to re-apply annually and during the period of re-application and funding registration, she gets nothing. For each child in her care, whether it is a newborn or a teenager, she receives a sum of R 800-00, which, I’m sure, you will understand is hardly enough to keep a little baby fed and in dry nappies for an entire month. With the teens the basic toiletries are a problem….the bigger kids need what adults need….deodorants, shampoo’s, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. This is what she is asking for. Please, if you can help her at all, complete the contact form below and I’ll be in touch to arrange pick-up/drop-off of the items. You can also donate funds, but send your contact details via the form so that I can forward the account details. Proof of purchase of all items will be provided and if you need an Article 18A, it can be arranged. Dunduzela is a registered NPO.
Below then, a list of the items she needs:
- Toilet paper
- Washing powder and softener
- Other household cleaning products (dish-washing liquid, Handy Andy/Vim, etc)
- Sanitary napkins
- Deodorant (boys and girls)
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Nappies (babies 6+ months)
- Wet Wipes
- Baby bath products
