With the economy being what it is, I understand that few people can really afford to contribute financially to causes. But did you know that there are so many ways one can be charitable? It begins with yourself, with the choice you make….you may think it is someone else’s problem, but it is not. It is yours, mine, everyone’s….and change in any bad situation begins with change of attitude.
We can make the world a better place by simply being a bit kinder to each other. Stop being so ignorant; help that old lady cross the street, say a friendly word to the guard in the parking lot, stop frowning at people. One smile can change a person’s sadness or despair into something less daunting. Help carry the burden with a touch or a friendly word. These things do not cost money, neither can money buy it….but it gives value to so many lives.
These simple things….these acts of kindness are the first step towards the goal: making the world a better place, providing in equal measure for all that which they need to sustain life. I know that a smile or a kind word will not feed the hungry….or build schools for the uneducated….or heal the sick, but it shows those who do without, that they are noticed, that they are not so far gone that they’ve become invisible. It brings a sense of worth, value to there despairing lives and by listening, caring, you plant the seed of hope that all is NOT lost and that the seemingly impossible can be achieved. It tells them that they are NOT alone.
Are you prepared to commit to changing the world? Would you be willing to treat all people in the same way you would want others to treat you?
Remember, the change begins with YOU!
